Brandt's 17th birthday

Grandma & Grandpa at Jaeleen's wedding

Hello to everyone from the Nichols. We are enjoying the last of the Fall colors and bracing ourselves for the snow--we had our first flakes fall today. Last week the kids were out of school for a few days so I decided to take the three youngest up the canyon to ride the 4-wheelers. Never mind that it was cold and rainy--Mom was determined to get out of the house and have some fun! Right when we rode up to the lake it began to snow/rain, so we headed back down as fast as we could, but we were drenched and frozen before we got back to the car. The trailer ramps were wet and slippery, which made loading the quads nearly impossible. By the time we got home I think we were all more traumatized than entertained! Next time the kids are out of school we'll stay home and bake cookies or something.
We were able to attend Jaeleen's wedding in Tremonton last month and it was nice to see all the family who came. Leon is still at his new job with Toyota--some days he really likes it, and some days he really doesn't! So we'll see what happens with that. Meantime we're all loving having a new car to drive---(that is until he sells it.) We recently celebrated Brandt's 17th birthday which was a lot of fun. Hope everyone is doing well--the Nichols

Trevin and Kaylie spent the last week with us here in Tucson. Here are a few pictures from the week.

We celebrated Trevin's birthday on 10/21 with bowling and a race car cake.

All dressed up for our ward Halloween carnival.

After a long day:)

Trevin fell asleep on the couch and Ainsley couldn't resist. Before we knew it she had wiggled her way under the covers with him. He never even woke up!

This weekend we enjoyed a gathering of the Wilburn James Brown siblings and spouses to celebrate the return of Bob and Donna from their mission to Spain. On Saturday we got together for a picnic at a really nice park in Highland, near Bob and Donnas home. We had Roger and Earlenes entire posterity, several from Bobs family, Leisel and her children, Aunt Bessie, Harold and Nora and all but Marion, of the living children of Earl and Maggie Brown and their spouses. Following the picnic the siblings and wives met at Bob and Donnas for a lovely dinner and than visited until about midnight.

Sunday everyone went to an early Sacrament meeting and then met at Bill and Jeannettes for a casual lunch and a kind of family business meeting that ended with a very casual snack around 7:00 PM.

It was really good to get up to date on all of the family members and strengthen our family bonds once again.

Bob and Donna are just returned from their Full Time Mission to Spain and are living in their home in Cedar Hills. Just getting settled back into "civilian life."

Bill and Jeannette are still getting used to retirement and enjoying their condominium living in American Fork, They are working in the Mount Timpanogos Temple one day a week and serving in the Ward.

Barry and Linda are still living in the same home in Orem and have Starr and her children living with them at the present time. Barry continues his construction business with his son Ladd and Linda works part time at the MTC.

Marion is still in Madison, Wisconsin as far as we know. No one has been in communication with him since just after mothers passing. We are all very concerned about his welfare but find it very difficult to communicate with him.

Murr and Cheryl are living in Apache Junction, Arizona where Murr is employed in the Financial Planning industry and Cheryl is teaching school in Mesa. They have purchased property and are having a home built in Queen Creek, Arizona.

Mike and Maurine are still living in Gilbert, Arizona but have purchased a lot in Queen Creek, Arizona and are in the process of putting their home up for sale and building on the Queen Creek lot.

Roger and Earlene have been back in Chubbuck, Idaho for about one year following a three year experience with the Church Education Department in the San Francisco area. They are retired and still in the process of remodeling their home in Chubbuck and raising bees.

Grandma & Grandpa Newsletter

I am so very pleased that those with greater forethought than I have had, have started a family newsletter as a means of communication between family members and recording something of our lives for posterity.

As this opportunity presents itself Grandma and I find ourselves nestled away in a very comfortable condominium in American Fork, Utah. We have three empty bedrooms and like it when family members can come and visit us.We are feeling the ravages of old age but know that we are blessed beyond the blessings of most of those around us. Just for the record Grandma is now 70 and I am 73. We have lived here for about 1 year and are happy here. We live quite near to Bob and Donna, Leisel and Leon, my brother Barry and his family, Uncle Merlyn and Uncle Harold and Aunt Bessie to name a few. We are also close to some of Bobs children and some of Roger and Earlenes. Grandma also has several extended family members living in nearby communities.

We fill our time with trying to decide what to eat 3 times a day and taking care of our condominium and our postage stamp size yard. We do have callings in the Church. I am a Home Teacher, an Assistant to the Ward High Priest Group Leader and have been set apart to work one day a week in the Baptistry of the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Every third month I am assigned to conduct Sacrament Services at the Bell Aire assisted living facility. Grandma is called as a Visiting Teacher and is also set apart to work one day a week in the Baptistry.

We have good relationships with those who have moved into our senior housing project known as Crystal Cove. We live in the Amarican Fork 11th Ward which is a very good Ward which was divided about 6 months ago and is still growing very rapidly. The Membership Clerk reads in 3 to 5 families each week many of whom are Elderly couples and Widows. We have about 50 High Priests but not enough Aaronic Priesthood to administer and pass the Sacrament. We find it interesting that two General Authorities in the recent past have stated that what is happening here is a "Gathering". We get along really well with the other people in our housing project and members of the Ward.

The weather here has been quite agreeable. We did have several days over 100 degrees this past summer but the evenings have been cool and enjoyable. The mountains are green and beautiful and there have been several occasions to drive up the canyons and enjoy the lakes and the scenery. We even looked at some cabin sites but have not seen anything we think is worth the investment. We have decided that now is the time to develop the Heber properties in Arizona and are in the process of working with Garth to build spec. houses rather than selling the land as is.

Being between Provo and Salt Lake, we have the opportunity to attend any number of special programs. Some at BYU and some at the Conference Center. We also choose to stay at home a lot and read, relax and watch T.V.

Thanks Jacie for getting us started.
Love to all,
Grandpa

Porter Newsletter

Hello,
We have been to Gilbert, Cara's wedding, and Utah this summer. Sometimes I feel like we are in our own little world down here in Tucson so it was good to visit with everyone. Nick started classes again a week ago and he works part time at Walgreen's. He just finished an internship with them and has decided to stay there at least until he's through with school. He has this year of classes, then a year of rotations, and then will graduate from the UofA Pharmacy College in May of 2008. That number keeps getting closer and closer! We have lived Tucson for three years now, and are feeling pretty at home here. Nick is always trying to talk me into sticking around her after he's done with school, but we'll see. Ainsley turned two in June. She has a fiery personality and is extremely busy. She keeps us on our toes! Channing will be one in about a month. He keeps busy following Ainsley around the house, and trying to keep up with what she's doing. They make a good team. She bosses him around and he just sits there and looks at her. Our babies are growing up so much! My dad always says " it seems like yesterday you were just a babe in my arms". Now I understand what he means:) Other than that our lives are pretty quiet. We had so much fun in Utah visiting with Grandma and Grandpa and the Nichols. Lissee and the other kids clocked a lot of hours babysitting for us. It was really nice! I also got to spend some time hanging out with Brandon and Megan and Corey when I was in Gilbert for the wedding. We want to congratulate Cara and Houston on their marriage, and look forward to seeing Tyler when he gets home. Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for letting us come and visit. Sometime soon I'll probably be writing a letter telling what my Dad and Trevin and Kaylie have been up to. Hope you all had a great summer!
Love,
*Jacie... & Nick & Ainsley & Channing*

Hi family
We kicked off the summer on June 3rd with Bryce's baptism. Brandt was able to perform the baptism, and it was a beautiful service. Most of June and July was spent working in the "rock quarry" better known as our front yard. It wasn't easy, but we finally laid sod and it looks great. We're working on the back yard now, and hoping to finish before the weather turns too cold. From what we hear we aren't the only ones who spent their summer landscaping--sounds like Garth and Suzie also moved a rock or two--congratulations! The other major events of summer were Lissee turning 15, Leon playing Christ in our Stake summer pagent, and Leon getting a new job selling Toyota's in Sandy. Because of the pagent Leon was asked to grow out his beard and hair, which made job interviewing even more interesting than usual. The guys at work call him "Al"--as in the Tool-Time guy. There is an inactive guy there who after finding out about the pagent took to calling him "Jesus"--so Leon returned the favor and calls him Judas. The pagent takes place August 19th, and I will post some pictures when I get them. The kids go back to school this Wednesday, so we'll soon be trading our late nights for early mornings. Hope everyone is well--we hope to catch up with all of you on this website from time to time. Thanks to Jacie for putting it together--Love, the Nichols!

We got together with Leisel and Leon and rode quads near Mt. Timpanogos. The trail takes you all the way to the very top of the mountain. The scenery was beautiful and we had so much fun.
